Tailored blanks are a technology in which multiple steel sheets of different thicknesses are welded into a single panel, which is then press formed. Since spots that need to be strong can be made thick while those that do not require strength can be made thin, there is no need for stiffeners. On top of this, costs can be reduced and weight can be trimmed through improved stock utilization.
